We are regularly looking for temporary Business Support Assistants with excellent communication skills to support various teams/directorates within Northamptonshire County Council.

The aim of the role is to provide administrative and secretarial support to the team and office to enable the council to deliver a more effective and efficient customer focused service.

These roles may vary depending on which team you work in, however can cover a number of aspects, such as full-time or part-time.


  • Providing an effective and efficient business support service
  • Taking minutes at all relevant service meetings
  • Diary Management
  • Organising meetings and arranging venues
  • Delivering an efficient and customer focused service by processing and responding to incoming communication (post, phone, and emails), message taking, copying and distributing information as necessary.
  • Actively contributing to information systems, offering a consistent service in relation to key information, including accurate inputting of events to the council’s database/spreadsheets in order to facilitate accurate reporting.
  • Excellent communications and customer service skills
  • Working understanding of Windows & Microsoft packages (including:Word, Excel, E-mail, Power Point, Internet)
  • Understanding of requirement for confidentiality
  • Ability to utilise IT systems to deliver services
  • Ability to work flexibly to meet demands of service
  • Ability to work with others to deliver services
  • Confident telephone manner
  • Whilst previous experience in a fast moving administration role is preferred, excellent communication skills and a ‘can-do’ attitude and willingness to learn are just as valuable.
  • Holiday entitlement of up to 31 days per annum, pro rata (including bank holidays).
  • Permanent equivalent council pay rates offered after 12 weeks
