About the job:

We have a great opportunity for a Field Service Engineer to provide site based technical ICT support services to Schools, Council offices, Libraries, Councillors, Wardens and any other ICT customers and provide Field Service resource to the delivery of technical projects.

Ideally you will either have experience in Field or Third Line Support. Second Line support candidates will be considered with demonstrable exposure to Field roles.

  • Investigate and plan cost effective field service visits in advance based on appointment history, equipment recall and customer requirements to maximise successful outcomes.
  • Liaise closely with vendors, clients and service desk to provide an effective service.
  • Follow up with Clients after every field visit and ensure Service Desk system logs and records are updated.
  • Perform simple repairs, installations or upgrades to computer hardware and software using, where appropriate, a range of software tools and techniques (eg imaging/remote software distribution) to ensure any changes cause minimum disruption.
  • Assist in the delivery of technical projects.
  • Maintain a good technical knowledge of ICT software in use by Council and other ICT customers; and of ICT hardware configurations for desktop and server platforms
  • Evaluation of new technologies and maintain an awareness of developments in technology products/services in order to make recommendations
  • Ensuring all processes are followed according to agreed standard.
  • Educated to A level. or relevant experience or NVQ level 3, BTEC or equivalent qualification in ICT
  • 2 years of directly relevant post-qualification experience or minimum of 3 years experience in a technical role in a medium to large organisation.
  • Understanding working of desktop/laptop/multifunction devices.
  • Fluent in PC usage
  • Microsoft Office, Service Desk software computer literate
  • Windows 7, 8 & 10 knowledge
  • Driving Licence
  • Understanding of ITIL
  • Understanding of Internet Technologies
  • Superb attention to detail, particularly with regard to record keeping and documentation
  • Adaptable to various duties/tasks
  • Able to prioritise own workload to meet deadlines
  • Able to develop effective working relationships inside and out of ICT team.
