Milton Keynes Council regularly recruit Housing Officers on a temporary basis for various teams within Housing & Community Directorate.

The role of the Housing Officer is to ensure all council housing in Milton Keynes is safe, habitable and well maintained, whilst aiding customers to sustain their tenancies.

Housing Officers provide accessible advice and assistance to tenants on a range of housing issues, such as anti-social behaviour, rent collection and income management, estate management, moving home and housing options.


  • Provide customers with housing options advice so that their housing needs are assessed and actioned appropriately.
  • Undertake tenancy audits, investigations in line with policy and legislation.
  • Create detailed support plans for tenants who may either be victims or perpetrators and where appropriate taking enforcement action to sustain their tenancies.
  • Support resident involvement, community development and crime reduction initiatives so that residents feel safe and are empowered to make a positive contribution to their community.
  • Ensure the highest quality of local authority housing by undertaking investigations, inspections and enforcement activities in response to complaints and enquiries, ensuring that government and council policies, objectives, plans, priorities and legislation are successfully implemented.
  • Consider complex needs of some tenants and aid in safeguarding.
  • Prepare and serve formal notices and undertake enforcement activities including attendance at court.
  • Act as service representative on working groups and attend meetings accordingly.
  • 5 GCSEs grade A-C including English or equivalent level of educational attainment.
  • Chartered Institute of Housing Professional Qualification or equivalent.
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of housing issues and current housing practice and law.
  • Developing and implementing operational plans in your area of responsibility.
  • Able to demonstrate people management skills and ability to lead.
  • An awareness of IT systems and be able to use Word and Excel.
  • Being able to use numerical and statistical data accurately to influence others where appropriate.
  • Ability to employ suitable interpersonal skills and being able to communicate at all levels.
