What is the job?

We are happy to be currently recruiting for an HR Advisor (12 month fixed term) on behalf of Cambridgeshire County Council.

As HR Advisor, you will provide generalist advise acting as a first point of contact for customers and service managers within the Children Services Directorate.

This is a full time, fixed term, 12 month contract, you must be able and willing to travel flexibly across all the customer sites within Cambridgeshire when necessary.

You will provide guidance on HR issues to service managers, with the ability to challenge constructively, developing a range of options and creative solutions within frameworks, policies and employment legislation. Assessing risk factors to allow managers to make sound business led decisions will be critical as will coaching and guiding managers to develop their understanding and skills. As a generalist HR Advisor, other accountabilities will entail Change Management, Information Management and Analysis, Project Work, HR Policies and Organisational Development, and Pay and Reward.

  • Part or full CIPD qualified or NVQ level 3 in Personnel.
  • In-depth practical experience of working in human resources.
  • Ability to support managers in dealing with change management, disciplinary, grievance, ill health and redundancy issues.
  • Sound knowledge of employment legislation.
  • Understanding of current best practice in HR.
  • Sound experience of using data effectively to provide useful management information
  • Understanding the role of Trade Unions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Shows an understanding of customer’s needs and takes appropriate action to meet their requirements.
  • Works steadily, efficiently and dependably.
  • Is able to work effectively in changing work environments and in the face of conflicting priorities.
  • Ability and confidence to be self-reliant and work from varying locations without heavy reliance on supervision.
  • Recognises individual responsibility to contribute to the effective working of the team.
  • Uses own initiative to plan and complete tasks to meet deadlines and targets.
  • Demonstrates careful attention to detail and ability to check all work for accuracy and quality standards.
  • Ability to influence managers to consider options and advise in a risk preferring manner.
  • Able to use available technology to work flexibly and effectively.
  • Act as an ambassador of all LGSS services, highlighting the benefits of all the services.
