About the job

As part of Milton Keynes Council’s Nursery Provision, Nursery Nurses/ Assistants are regularly required to provide high quality care and education to meet the needs of children under the age of 5 using the nursery facility and their families.

As a Nursery Nurse / Assistant, you will assist in the day to day domestic duties of the nursery and observe, plan, prepare, implement and evaluate the work and activities of the children.

  • Provide a welcoming and stimulating learning environment to enable children to learn through play and grow in confidence.
  • Observe, monitor, evaluate and record all aspects of the children’s development in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.
  • Ensure appropriate standards of safety and security are maintained at all times to safeguard the welfare of the children in line with the Statutory Welfare Requirements.
  • Encourage parents to be ‘partners’ in their child’s development by working together and having a positive impact on the children’s learning.
  • Ensure appropriate standards of hygiene are met at all times in line with Day Nursery’s Policies and Procedures to ensure the wellbeing and Health and Safety of the Children and Staff.
  • Attend staff meetings and keep up to date on new developments on policies and practice surrounding childcare, education and play.
  • Work as part of the overall nursery team to ensure the effective delivery of the service and the smooth running of the nursery.
  • Educated to an NVQ Level 3 or above in Early Years and Childcare or equivalent, with proven practical experience within the early years environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate effective communication skills both written and verbal.
  •  Ability to respond calmly and appropriately to problems and issues arising in the workplace.
  •  Awareness and understanding of safeguarding and health and safety policies and procedures.
  •  Understand risk and contribute to preparing risk assessments relating to nursery activities.
  •  Evidence of use of own initiative to achieve results.
