About the job:

As a Rural Estate Manager working for Cambridgeshire County Council through Opus LGSS, you will lead the management of CCC’s 34,000 acre rural estate, the largest of its kind in England and Wales, with over 200 rural businesses and close to a £5m rent roll.


This job is for up to three months/whilst looking to recruit permanently.

  • Lead the Rural Estate Management function for LGSS across the East of England, providing  high quality professional advice to customers and developing new business and trading opportunities for LGSS
  • Lead the strategic development of customers’ Rural Estates, providing high level engagement with Senior Officers and Members, and representing LGSS and customers’ interests at regional and national level within the industry
  • Deliver operational Rural property management, valuations and transactions, to represent LGSS within internal and external environments in respect of operational property matters, and to represent the interests of key Shareholders and customers at all levels, including direct engagement with Executive Directors and Members
  • Provide direct Line Management to the Rural Estate Management team (four), including the professional surveyors, and to give technical and pastoral advice and guidance to all members of the Rural Estate Management teams, both in Cambridge and, where appropriate, seconded or matrix managed employees within customers’ organisations
  • Be the principal professional advisor to Strategic Assets’ customers on Estate Strategy, management and valuation matters, and to advise Senior Management and Directorate Management Teams on professional and technical issues
  • Deliver delegated customer, LGSS and LGSS-Managed budgets on target, including the delivery of any agreed savings and efficiencies targets
  • Lead the development and implementation of cutting edge processes and initiatives to develop and maintain a cohesive and consistent Strategic Assets function across LGSS’s Shareholders and Customers
  • Lead the technical property input to partnership working with internal and external stakeholders, to deliver collaborative initiatives, and implement improvements in cross-cutting working relationships
  • Lead negotiations in high profile and complex technical property issues on behalf of customers and Shareholders, providing high quality and professional advice to enable good decision-making

The successful candidate is likely to be educated to degree level in a relevant land use discipline and be a Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Previous experience is required in public or private sectors of the property industry, a commercial focus and good knowledge of agricultural law and rural estate management practices.
