About the job:

As a Senior IT Technician, you will provide day-to-day support for clients and users of computer networks, including infrastructure, file-servers, desktop support, client, and office software. The Senior IT Technician will be a skilled and experienced member of the information technology function with the ability to perform tasks unsupervised but with appropriate technical support. The post-holder will be expected to work flexibly to provide a core service. The post-holder will also be expected to join the IT on-call rota and to undertake emergency duties as required. Travel to different sites within the county will be required as part of the post-holders’ duties.

The post-holder will be expected to work flexibly to meet the needs of a 24/7 workforce. This may mean, on occasion, working outside the core office hours 08:00 – 18:00

  • Analyse, diagnose and resolve complex incidents and requests that cannot be resolved at first point of contact to ensure the most cost effective and efficient solution is achieved with minimal disruption to IT system users, in line with SLA’s.
  • Support the Principal IT analysts, line manager and senior management on business as usual work and projects including evaluation, implementation and review.
  • Provide advice and support to end users and clients on the appropriate use of IT to support operational tasks.
  • Liaise and negotiate with all appropriate groups to resolve technical issues and problems.
  • Support calls and workloads will be allocated and monitored via the Service Desk system.
  • Assist with local and wide area network management including wired and wireless solutions.
  • Work closely with relevant key staff to ensure technical and professional standards are maintained.
  • Develop and maintain standards in IM&T security.

  • Effective communication skills will be required to engage a range of stakeholders in service development and change issues. This includes developed interpersonal, negotiation, influencing and conflict management skills, where the subject matter is complex and/or sensitive.

  • Developed analytical and problem-solving skills will be required.

  • Ability and experience of managing multiple strands of work in a challenging environment.
  • Requirement to travel between sites is essential, using own transport when required
  • Experience of providing technical support on client devices including Microsoft Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office applications including Outlook email, bespoke and clinical applications.
  • An understanding of LAN and WAN technologies including wireless and infrastructure connectivity.
  • An understanding of Windows Active Directory, GPO’s and remote support tools
  • Experience of working with senior managers and leaders.
  • Understanding of the local NHS structure, strategy, vision and policy.
  • Understanding of project management.
  • Holiday entitlement of up to 31 days per annum, pro rata (including bank holidays).
